Title: HOME HEALTH AIDE
Definition:
The Home Health Aide is responsible for those personal care and support services, which are required to provide and maintain normal physical and emotional comfort. These services must be given under the supervision of a professional nurse.
Function:
- Know the philosophy, purpose, policies and standards of the Agency and is guided by them in providing care.
- To perform the following personal care activities only when authorized, instructed, and supervised by a Registered Professional Nurse:
- Helping clients with bath, care of mouth, skin, nails (cleaning and filing only) and hair (brushing, combing and braiding).
- Straightening beds or changes bed linens.
- Taking temperature, pulse and respirations and record.
- Maintenance of body alignment, provide range of motion, massage back.
- Helping client in and out of bed, assisting with ambulating.
- Helping client with eating, preparing and/or serving food.
- Helping client to dress, shave, etc.
- Routine light housekeeping, dusting, dishes, keeping kitchen and bathroom clean. Cleaning toilet, sink and bathtub, emptying trash, obtaining mail, washing, and folding laundry.
- Can assist or remind client with medications.(supervision only)
- The Home Health Aide may render the following services only if instructed explicitly by the Registered Nurse:
- Change colostomy bag.
- Reinforce sterile dressing; change non-sterile dressings within the Kansas Home Health Aide Guidelines.
- Assist with rehabilitation program by helping with active/passive exercises under the instructions of either the RN, Physical Therapist, or Occupational Therapist.
- Keeps daily records of all services rendered to client on nurse assistant flow sheet and enters all records into client’s permanent record each week.
- Reports any changes in the client’s condition immediately to the Nursing Supervisor. (call the office to report any changes)
Qualifications:
Have Home Health Aide certificate issued by the State.
The Home Health Aide will be selected on the basis of such factors as:
- Emotional/mental maturity.
- Interest and sympathetic attitude toward caring for the sick.
- Willingness to participate in a continuing learning process.
- The ability to communicate through reading, writing, and carrying out instructions.
- The ethical standards, which dictate appropriate client care supervision.
- Reliable transportation.
- The Home Health Aide is responsible to the Nursing Supervisor.
The same expectations and guidelines are to be followed by all Certified Nurses Aides. (C.N.A.) We ask that each Certified Nurse Aide assist us with locating and ensuring that they obtain their HHA within 60days of hire.
